Do you feel stuck? Lost? Has your light become dimmer over the years? Are you struggling to find your true path and calling? Do you have questions about God? Do you yearn for guidance from a trained professional who will understand and respect you right where you are at in your walk with our Lord?
If so, you are definitely not alone. More and more of our clients are looking for faith-based counseling that can heal the mind and soul. They want to be able to not only discuss the issues they are having but also openly discuss God, the Holy Bible, and their belief in the power of prayer.
As a pastoral counselor we practice with strong legal and ethical considerations at all times. This role is strongly supported by solid and sound spiritual and Christian teachings, principles and philosophies.
According to Scripture, there are four dimensions of human life. These dimensions play an important part in our health and wellbeing.
We are created as:
- Physical beings with bodily needs
- Social beings with relationship needs
- Psychological beings with cognitive needs
- And spiritual beings with a need for God
Pastoral counselors have a unique advantage of being able to approach issues holistically based on these dimensions. Faith based counselors aim to holistically integrate the mind, body and spirit for people of all Christian faiths.
Selecting the Right Faith-Based Counselor to Work With
Just as no two people are alike, no two faith-based counselors are alike either. They will differ on a few different things:
- How much religious training (if any) they have had
- How much religious they incorporate into their practice
- The populations they serve
- Their psychological expertise
Christian faith-based counselors are free to speak openly and candidly about his or her faith with the client. And know, all licensed professional mental counselors are well trained in psychological counseling but not all are trained to help on a spiritual level.
At the end of the day, you need to decide what is the most important qualification you wish your counselor to have. It is a good idea to do some research and find local faith-based counselors in your area. Get on the phone with them and ask some questions. The most important thing is whether or not you feel comfortable talking with them.
If you or someone you love is interested in exploring faith based treatment, please get in touch with us. We would be happy to discuss how we may be able to help you. At LoveCare Counseling, all faiths are welcome.
